Bread and Butter Pudding

Bread and Butter Pudding

 2 pt Ovenproof Dish
 Mixing Bowl
 Balloon Whisk


 8 Slices of Bread
 3 Eggs
 75g/3oz Sultanas
 Butter or Spread
 50g/2oz Caster Sugar
 340ml/12floz Milk
 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
 Fresh Grated Nutmeg


Pre-heat the oven to 180°c / 350°f / Gas Mark 4.
Butter the bread and cut in half.
Liberally butter the ovenproof dish.
Using half of the bread, arrange one layer of bread in the dish.
Sprinkle half of the sultanas over the top.
Arrange the remaining bread over this and finish with the rest of the sultanas.
In the mixing bowl, whisk the eggs together.
Now whisk in the sugar and vanilla.
Finally whisk in the milk.
Pour the mixture over the bread and allow to soak for a few minutes.
Grate nutmeg over the top.
Place in the centre of the oven for 35-40 minutes.
Serve hot with custard or ice cream.
