Transcript: By Danielle, Esther and Chisom Christian Weddings The Marriage Journey The Marriage Journey A wedding is the beginning , not an end of a very long journey. The real point is what follows. The wedding should set you off in the right direction for a marriage journey. The different Chrisitian traditions agree strongly about marriage. Because marriage is a mjor, life-long commitiment, Churches prepare couples carefully for it . Marriage courses are common . CHurch leaders will coumnsel and pray with couples and discuss Chrisitian teaching about marriage. 1. Hymn - This focuses everyones mind on God 2. Opening Statement - This Summarises what marriage is 3. Declaration 4. Promises or vows 5. Exchange of rings 6. Proclamation - The couple are now husband and wife 7.Prayers for the couple - There is often a talk or a sermon about marriage 8. The registrar is signed by the couple and witnesses - To the record that marriatge is legal 9.Closing Worship - It is then followedf by photos and a recepetion The Order of Service The order of service The witnesses and the couple are asked if there is any reason th couple can not get married. Declaration Declaration I, ____, take you, ____, to be my wife (or husband), to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part, according to God's holy law, and this is my solemn vow. Promises or Vows Vows before the kiss The vows that you make are at the heart of your wedding day and have been spoken by millions of couples over the centuries. They can not be re-written or changed in any way for legal reasons – they are the words of commitment to a shared life that define you as ‘married’. I give you this ring as a sign of our marriage. With my body I honour you, all that I am I give to you, and all that i have I share with you... within the love of God, Father, Son & Holy Spirit Vows for ring exchange Exchange of rings The Exchange of Wedding Rings represent the vows and promises the bride and groom have exchanged. They signify to the world that that they belong to someone special and someone special belongs to them. Example: Chrisitian Traditions Chrisitan Traditions In the chrisitan weddings some things must happen. Like the bride wears white or the groom has to come into the church first. Here are theses tradtions explained. Ephesians 5:23-32 reveals that earthly marriages are a picture of the church’s’ union with Christ. God initiated the relationship through Christ, who called and came for his bride, the church. Christ is the groom, who established the blood covenant first initiated by God. For this reason, the groom enters the church first. The Groom enters first because....... Why does the Grooom enters first? Revelation 19:7-8: It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. The bride wears white because...... Why does the Bride wears white? The cutting of the cake is another picture of the cutting of the covenant. When the bride and groom take pieces if the cake and feed it to each other, once again, they are showing how they have given their all to one another, and will care for the other as one flesh. In this wedding, the cutting and feeding of the cake will be done joyfully, but lovingly and reverently, in a way that honors the covenant of our relationship. The Groom feeds the Bride with cake because.... Why does the groom feed the bride with cake?. The Reception The Reception At a wedding reception, guests are invited to share with the couple in the blessings of the covenant. Interesting Facts Interesting Facts about Wedding 1. For good luck, Egyptian women pinch the bride on her wedding day. 2. Middle Eastern brides paint henna on their hands and feet to protect themselves from the evil eye. 3. Engagement and wedding rings are worn on the fourth finger of the left hand because it was once thought that a vein in that finger led directly to the heart. 4. Moroccan women take a milk bath to purify themselves before their wedding ceremony. - When the minister introduces the couple to the wedding guests, he is drawing attention to their new identity and name change brought about by marriage. - A ring also represents resources. When the couple exchanges wedding rings, this symbolizes the giving of all their resources — wealth, possessions, talents, emotions — to the other in marriage. - Wedding Symbols More Interesting Facts Our Personel Experiences Tradition weddings/engagements are very different to white weddings. the weddings often take place in a large compound(land surrounding the grooms/brides house). Everyone wears their most beautiful dressies and eats delicious food. in the igbo culture the brideis given a cup of palm wine which she then has to present to her husband on the day ofher traditional weding. there is lots of dancing singing and entertainment from hired entertainers. Transcript: Closing Prayer • The closing prayer or benediction brings the wedding ceremony to a close. • Expresses the wishes of the congregation, through the minister, offering a blessing of peace and joy and that God may bless the new couple with his presence. • Offered by a special wedding participant. Example of Closing Prayer: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. The Lord lift up the light of his countenance upon you, and give you peace. Father of the Bride • Walks bride down the aisle, and gives bride away, and traditionally pays for wedding • Traditionally based on women living and depending on their fathers, until they are married, when their husband assumes this role. • Today, it is seen as a sign of approval and love • Paying for wedding is no longer typical, and most couples pay for the wedding themselves, or both parents provide a small amount Basic Info - Wedding cakes can range in size, from a small cake that feeds ten people, to a very large cake that will feed hundreds - Commonly, the couple ceremonially cut the first piece of the cake, and in a nod to an ancient Roman wedding rite, may feed a bite to one another and perhaps sip a glass of wine or other drink with linked arms History - One of the first traditions began in Ancient Rome where bread was broken over the bride’s head to bring good fortune to the couple - In Medieval England cakes were stacked as high as possible for the bride and groom to kiss over, if they successfully kissed over the stack they were guaranteed a prosperous life together - During the mid-17th century to the beginning of the 19th century, the “bride’s pie” was served at most weddings, guests were expected to have a piece out of politeness because it was considered very rude and bad luck not to eat the bride’s pie - The bride’s pie developed into the bride’s cake which was traditionally a plum or fruit cake--> sign of fertility and prosperity which helped them gain popularity because all married men wanted to have plenty of children - Bride’s cake eventually transformed into the modern wedding cake we know today - Pillars between cake tiers were very poorly made from broomsticks covered in icing but represented prosperity and were a status symbol because only wealthy families could afford to put them in the cake Paul the Apostle- "It becomes both men and women who marry, to form their union with the approval of the bishop, that their marriage may be according to God, and not after their own lust." Expense - Average cost of a wedding was about $28,000 in 2007, almost twice the cost of a wedding in 1990 - This average later dropped to $25,500 in 2011 with 50% of the couple’s budget being spent on the reception alone (food and alcohol) Catechism of the Catholic Church 1601 "The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament."84 I. MARRIAGE IN GOD'S PLAN 1602 Sacred Scripture begins with the creation of man and woman in the image and likeness of God and concludes with a vision of "the wedding-feast of the Lamb."85 Scripture speaks throughout of marriage and its "mystery," its institution and the meaning God has given it, its origin and its end, its various realizations throughout the history of salvation, the difficulties arising from sin and its renewal "in the Lord" in the New Covenant of Christ and the Church.86 II. THE CELEBRATION OF MARRIAGE 1621 In the Latin Rite the celebration of marriage between two Catholic faithful normally takes place during Holy Mass, because of the connection of all the sacraments with the Paschal mystery of Christ.120 In the Eucharist the memorial of the New Covenant is realized, the New Covenant in which Christ has united himself for ever to the Church, his beloved bride for whom he gave himself up.121 It is therefore fitting that the spouses should seal their consent to give themselves to each other through the offering of their own lives by uniting it to the offering of Christ for his Church made present in the Eucharistic sacrifice, and by receiving the Eucharist so that, communicating in the same Body and the same Blood of Christ, they may form but "one body" in Christ.122 1622 "Inasmuch as it is a sacramental action of sanctification, the liturgical celebration of marriage . . . must be, per se, valid, worthy, and fruitful."123 It is therefore appropriate for the bride and groom to prepare themselves for the celebration of their marriage by receiving the sacrament of penance. Secular Symbols & Rituals Wedding vows • A sacred promise between the bride and the groom in front of God. • It is a promise that they will love each other through every thick and thin situation they may come across. • The wedding vows are

Transcript: The wedding day Other steps the couple has to complete usually are : First step is the proposal. The man usually asks his partner to marry him by kneeling on one knee and offering his lover a ring. This is the most common way to propose, but there are many others. Proposal can be decided by the women as well, or by agreement such as "Let's get married" Fung Fung, M. (2011, December 12). Marriage in europe and traditional chin. Proposal Throughout the preparations, the couple usually sends letters/invitations to their friends and family, letting them know about their engagement and inviting those people to attedn the ceremony. American Christian Wedding Marriage Customs In the West, marriage customs are not complex. There are only three steps between being a simple couple and being married. The Night before References: Mate Selection Christian weddings happen in church. Husband and wife are expected to be loyal and equal. Others also expect to see children in the future. Some wives become house wives after having kids. They quit their jobs and work at home. Men have role to sustain the family through his work. Unlike Chinese traditional weddings, American Christian weddings are far more simple and require less complications and procedures. Facts: Traditionally, on the special day, the couple gets ready separately so they can surprise each other. When the ceremony beggins, the bride walks down the aisle of the church where a preist marries the couple. The soul mates exchange vows and rings and then kiss at the end. After the ceremony, there is usually a dinner then a party to celebrate the new wife and husband. In most cases, the bride and the groom do not sleep together the night before the wedding. Their friends take them out separately to different places to celebrate their last day as "not married". Choosing the bride's dress, the venue, wedding cake, music, decorations, the date, the food and the planning of the whole day. Tip: the bride's dress is usually kept from the groom's eyes until the big day traditionally. It is also most of the time white, the colour that represents happiness. Some brides decide to be different sometimes In this type of marriage, the mate selection is very simple. It is the pure decision of the two individuals that are becoming a couple. When it comes to getting married, the family's opinion about the male or female selection can have an impact, but it is not to the family's to decide of this couple's future The next step after the couple is to be married is to get prepared for the wedding. This part of the procedure is divided in many little tasks that are to be completed. The preparations vary depending on the couple and what they want, but I will talk about the most common procedure. Great with students, workers, family, etc. For example: With games like Jeopardy and Family Feud, players can pick practically any answers. The person who is running the game will have to have all of the answers in order to determine if players are correct or not. However, with a game like Who Wants to be a Millionaire, the players only have a choice between answers, A, B, C, or D. Therefore, when the player decides their answer, the person running the game clicks it, and the game will tell them whether they are right or wrong.

Transcript: First Reading 18 Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for[a] him.” 19 Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed[b] every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam[c] there was not found a helper fit for him. 21 So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22 And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made[d] into a woman and brought her to the man. 23 Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. The priest then reads the second reading which is from the new testament: At the end he says"The Gospel of the Lord" and the quests respond " Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ" 128 Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways! 2 You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. 4 Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord. 5 The Lord bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life! 6 May you see your children's children! Peace be upon Israel! The Rite of Marriage Exchange of the Vows Responsorial Psalm 1 John 4:7-12 God Is Love 7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. Dress, Suit, Hair, Flowers and rings Exchange of the Rings Opening Prayer The priest then announces that the couple is officially married. The couple then asks God for blessing in celebrating their wedding. Liturgy of the Word The priest then proclaims the Gospel: Mark 10:6-9 6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’[a] 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,[b] 8 and the two will become one flesh.’[c] So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate. The priest then reads the first reading which comes from the old testament. In this case the reading is Genesis 2:18-24 The priest blesses the rings and reads: Christian Wedding The quest's stand. Justin Timberlake's (Another song) All over again start's to play, while the priest, minister and the rest of the wedding party walks in to the altar. The priest then reads the opening prayer: Father, hear our prayers for [Name] and [Name], who today are united in marriage before your altar. Give them your blessing, and strengthen their love for each other. We ask you this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. The Bride and Groom says: Groom: I, (Name), take you, (Name), for my lawful wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part. Bride: I, (Name), take you, (Name), for my lawful husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part. The quests stand and a chanter leads them to sing: 1 John 4:8, 11 God is love let us love one another as God has loved us. The choir then sings: By: Hailee Saumur Doughty Gospel Acclamation This is the most vital part of the wedding ceremony. These words express the covenant between the two people. Priest: May the Lord bless these rings which you give to each other as the sign of your love and fidelity. Response: Amen. The priest then gives a reminder to the couple that they are taking a solemn vow before God and the people that are gathered together. Second Reading
