FAU is also a member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. History of FAU Before the campus was built, it was a vacant U.S airbase. The son of a prominent Fort Lauderdale attorney and bank president, Tom Fleming stood before the board of control on Jan. 18 1957 and made is proposal.
