The university has Regional Accreditation. More than half of the student body is identified as international or a minority. Females outnumber the Male student body. FAU is also a member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. History of FAU Before the campus was built, it was a vacant U.S airbase. The son of a prominent Fort Lauderdale attorney and bank president, Tom Fleming stood before the board of control on Jan. 18 1957 and made is proposal. Which was then passed, the air base would be home to what is now Florida Atlantic University. In September 1964, the University opened it's doors to the public. Deadlines Academics Social Activities FAU also has an early admission program for high school students willing to enter college early. Financial Aid/Scholarships In FAU, they provide career counseling/services, internship opportunities, and a calender listing the dates of different career fairs. The passing rate in the Nursing major is 100%. The university provides you with a career plan to help you get a job. FAU found their mascot right at their doorstep. The burrowing owl. It's native to South Florida, the owl lives and raises its chicks in holes in the ground. The Boca Raton campus is an official burrowing owl sanctuary. The mascot's name is Owlsley. Financial aid is available to all FAU degree seeking students. Student financial aid office provides help from application to award. The office of international programs has created a list filled with scholarships, contains opportunities for undergraduates, and sometimes graduates too. This University also accepts the Bright Futures scholarship. FAU follows a competitive admissions policy. REQUIREMENTS ACT Comp. score: 24 SAT reading/math: 535 SAT writing: 524 Average High School GPA: 3.86 Students are able to choose from a variety of meal plans. Students may use their "OwlBucks" at any dining location on campus. Meal plans include Residential, Commuter, and Employee. Restaurants include, Burrowing Owl, The FAU Club, Dunkin Donuts, Papa John's, Starbucks, and more. Meal plans range from 250-1,900 dollars. Some are paid per semester while some are paid once for the full academic school year. On campus living includes residential halls and apartment style living. You can live on campus until you are 21. Room assignments are a first come, first serve basis. To submit a specific roommate request, you must utilize the "MyHousing" website. Ranges to live on campus go from 3,400-4,500. The possession of alcohol and illegal drugs is prohibited at any campus recreation or facility. The BB&T bank offers full service to students and there is ATM locations around campus. Activities around the campus include: Theatres Arcades Nature Center Escape Rooms Beaches Gardens Museum of Art Meal Plans Florida Atlantic University Surrounding Area Activities On Campus Living The FAU campus does not have Greek fraternities, sororities, or Greek Academic organizations. However, they do offer Social Fraternities and Sororities, as well as Academic Honors Societies, Marching Band, etc. FAU is a member of the NCAA division 1, and Conference USA.
